The most basic definition of "Edible" is something that is safe to eat.
When referring to edibles of the cannabis variety, this refers to food products that contain cannabis, usually in the form of THC or CBD. Typically, these are in the form of soft chews (such as gummy bears), hard candies (for example, lollipops), chocolates, drinks, and baked goods. While these are a great introduction to cannabis in general, there are a few things to keep in mind before consumption.
In Ontario, the legal age for cannabis consumption is 19+. This also applies to edibles! Something else to consider is that edibles affect people differently. Some things that should be factored in are tolerance, age, body mass, and gender. Also, take of note whether your edibles are Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid. There are times when people say they have consumed edibles and did not feel a thing. Sometimes people have insane tolerances, and other times they simply have not read the packaging and missed that the edibles have low doses of THC or CBD, or that the edibles are hybrid rather than the Indica they were expecting.
Note to everyone out there: please read the packaging and follow the recommended dosages! Different edibles have different doses of THC/CBD and not all are created equal! If you are new to edibles, a good starting point is 5mg. So, if you have a bag of gummy colas, that is 10mg per cola piece, start with half a cola. It is important to figure out your comfort range and stay within it. Also, most edibles take around 30-45 minutes to kick in simply because they are food items and need proper time to be digested and introduced to your body. Having edibles on an empty stomach is not recommended.
While there are things to consider before having some edibles, it is a very popular and enjoyable route to getting a nice buzz. Enjoy!
